We are pleased to serve food that is alive with flavor and nutrition, prepared from scratch using authentic ingredients. We do this in a socially responsible manner for the well-being of our guests, communities, and the environment. Our foundation in catering and focus on culinary expertise means that we provide unparalleled food, presentation, and service for your event.

We have two easy solutions to fit all of your catering needs


Full-Service Catering

Our Full-Service Catering is the heart of our catering guide and offers a broad range of catering options. Full-Service Catering offers delivery, setup, our Bon Appétit signature presentation, and pick up once your event ends.


Express Catering

Express Catering by Bon Appetit is a budget conscious solution for everyday catering needs. It has been specifically designed for our guests interested in picking-up, setting-up and cleaning up their own events in an effort to minimize entertainment costs. To create a full meal, we recommend ordering several menu items.

GOOD TO KNOW

·       Ordering Information: Place orders at least 48 hours in advance.

·       Cancellations: Orders canceled less than 48 hours in advance will be charged 50% of the total invoice. Orders canceled less than 24 hours in advance will be charged 100% of the total invoice.

·       Substitutions: Express Catering selections are not available for menu customization or substitutions.

·       Pick-up: Orders can be picked up from the catering department at Market Cafe between 8am–5pm.

·       Display: All of our ready-to-serve selections are plated on recyclable catering trays or bowls.

·       Disposables: Plates, cups and /or utensils can be purchased for $1.00 per person.

·       Sales Tax: Prices listed do not include sales tax. Applicable SF sales tax will be added to your final bill.

Policies and Procedures


Ordering

To avoid late charges, orders must be finalized (14) business days prior to your event date with Bon Appetit Catering Services

We recommend placing orders as early as possible to allow sufficient time for changes or updates to your event.


Custom Orders

Whether you are conducting a department meeting, hosting a client visit, or celebrating a special occasion, our talented chefs are happy to create a customized menu for your event. Customized menus are subject to a $50 menu development fee.

Please leave ample time for our chefs to create your menu. Custom menus will be ready for review in five to seven business days after initial request.

 

Tastings

Tastings may be scheduled for your event with a two-week advance notice. The tasting fee for up to three selections is $300, plus the cost of the food. Up to three guests can participate in the tasting. Upon booking of the event, you will receive $150 event credit.

 

Changes

We will do our best to accommodate changes, however we may be unable to fulfill revisions after a deadline has passed. Order changes made to an event less than (5) business days prior are subject to a $50 change fee.

 

Donations

Donations of prepared food are not allowed.

 

Pop-Up Requests

For order requests less than (5) business days in advance, please place your order as soon as possible. We will do our best to accommodate last minute requests, however selections will be limited. We suggest reviewing the selections marked with Unknown keyword: * for unexpected, last minute orders.

Pop-Up requests are subject to the following fees:

(2-5) business days in advance: 50 dollars

(1) business day in advance: 100 dollars

Day of event: 200 dollars


Delivery Fees

Catering orders of less than $100 are subject to a $25 delivery fee.

Catered events held in the Margaret Fowler Garden or the Performing Arts Center will incur a minimum offsite delivery charge of $50.
Catered events held not on the Scripps Campus will incur a minimum offsite delivery charge of $30.
Catered events of 100 or more persons, not held in the Malott Commons, will incur additional labor charges based on the size of event.

For off campus delivery requests, a tiered fee applies based on the final destination. Depending on location, a fuel surcharge may also apply.


Final Guest Counts
In arranging for catered events, attendance must be finalized 14 days in advance of the event. This number will be considered your guaranteed minimum guest count, which is not subject to reduction.  Increases to your guarantee after said date are due no later than three business days in advance, are subject to approval and may incur additional charges.  Reductions to your guarantee after said date will not be eligible for a credit or refund.

 

Cancellations
Catering orders canceled less than 72 hours in advance will be charged 50% of the total invoice, plus any rentals.  Orders canceled less than 24 hours in advance will be charged 100% of the total invoice.

 

Written Authorization
All events require a signature approving the amount as indicated on the contract prior to the start of the event. Any changes of the menu or location may require a new contract and signature.

 

Decorations
Florals can be coordinated and quoted upon request with our preferred vendors.  Special centerpieces and decorations may be provided at an additional charge.

House linens or runner are included for all buffet set ups. Standard in-house colors are white and black.  Linen for additional tables (Seating, lounge, registration, bar, etc) are available at $4 per linen. In-house white napkins are available at $1 per piece and are available in white and black.  We recommend (2) linen for a (6) or (8) ft table.  If additional linen is requested from our servers, there will be a charge of $4 per linen, if available.

Please order additional table linen (1) week in advance.  Last minute orders/additions may be subject to additional delivery fees. 


Removing Leftovers

Based on city health code, select leftovers remaining on the buffet table may be available for take home.  Leftovers that have been served are not permitted to be packaged to go.  Consult with your event planner for details

Please Note: Once leftovers are packaged, the guest assumes all liability for proper storage and consumption of product.

Catering staff is not permitted to pack any leftovers. Clamshells are available for 1 dollar per piece. Please be sure to request in advance of event


Timeliness
Due to the logistics involved with each event, our catering attendants are on strict timelines and cannot afford delays. Any clean-up delays, or rescheduling due to a client request, are subject to additional labor fees, at $25 per hour per server.

 

Student Meal Card Credits
Departments may receive credit for Scripps students on the board plan that attend a catered event (breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner). To receive this credit, you must complete the Student Meal Credit form available online from the Dining Services Office. It must be returned to the Dining Services Office 14 days prior to your event. Please type or print clearly.

The following are the credit rates:
Breakfast $ 4.25
Brunch and Lunch $5.25
Dinner $6.75

 

Miscellaneous Charges.
Events over 50 people may incur additional charges for the use of china.
All functions held in the Hampton Dining or Living Rooms require linen.
Events held on Scripps-observed holidays are subject to additional labor charges.
The minimum order for any event is $100, orders not meeting this requirement will incur a surcharge to cover equipment and labor.
Receptions held in the Malott Commons or Hampton Room may incur a minimum of $15 service charge depending on the size of the event.

 

Alcohol Service

Scripps Catering cannot provide liquor or alcohol for your event. You will need to make arrangements for the purchase and delivery to your event site or the Malott Commons Kitchen prior to the event. There is no additional charge for wine service during your event. A bartender is required for any event requiring liquor service


Bartenders

All events serving alcohol require a licensed bartender. Bartenders are charged at 40 per person, per hour with a (5) hour minimum. Bar set-ups are subject to a fee of $75 for beer and wine bars and $125 for full bars.  

The Dining Services at Scripps College does not have storage space for liquor or alcohol leftover from an event. Please make arrangements to pick up any leftover liquor or alcohol the day after your event. Dining Services cannot deliver leftover liquor or alcohol and we will not be responsible for your beer, wine, or liquor.

 

Types of Events

Drops are events that do not require service staff. They are generally intimate affairs requiring delivery, set up and pick-up services only.

Full-service events are the majority of buffets, served lunch / dinners and appetizer receptions. These events require service staff with the amount based on guest count. Service staff is $40 per person, per hour with a (5) hour minimum. Unknown keyword: Captains are available at $45 per person, per hour with a (5) hour minimum.

Staffing for these events uses a standard labor formula to calculate the time required:

*Final labor hours may vary depending on logistics, specific to your event

Service staff, for the set-up, event time and clean-up, is automatically added to the event contract. Consult your event planner for details.


Chefs, Carvers and Grill Cooks

Specialized services such as chefs, carvers, grill cooks, and action stations are available for your event and determined based on the total guest count. Specialized staffing is $50 per person, per hour with a (4) hour minimum.

 

Regular Business Hours

During the academic year, our regular business hours are 7 am – 7 pm, Monday – Friday and 8 am – 5 pm, Saturday - Sunday. Regular business hours are reduced during non-academic periods. Consult with your event planner for details.

Catering deliveries and pick-ups during regular business hours are not subject to additional labor charges.


After Hours

business hours’exceptions 10pm to 6am, Catering deliveries and pick-ups before or after regular business hours are subject to an after-hours surcharge


Holidays

During holidays, the catering department is closed. If you have event needs on a holiday, catering deliveries and pick-ups are subject to a holiday labor fee of 50 dollars per person, per hour with a (5) hour minimum
